The UK government recently announced an additional £20 million funding boost to improve HGV driver facilities. This new move could mark a positive change in the logistics industry according to leading manual handling experts, Midland Pallet Trucks.
The UK-based supplier of pallet trucks, lift tables, and aerial work platforms has been calling for change as the logistics industry buckles under the pressure of growing ecommerce orders, rising customer expectations, and supply chain issues, and is happy that the government is now committed to improving the industry.
The new round of funding is set to improve the facilities at roadside services and lorry parking facilities. It comes as part of the National Highways’ Users and Communities Fund that’s being put towards keeping the UK trading and improving the logistics sector.
The vocal pallet truck supplier believes that HGV driver welfare is important for a well-functioning logistics industry. Without them, warehouses across the country will be unable to effectively manage their supply chains and ensure timely delivery of goods.
Phil Chesworth, Managing Director of Midland Pallet Trucks says, “It’s no secret that the past few years have been disastrous for the logistics and warehousing industries. Many companies have found it impossible to keep up with the rising demand pressures, and HGV drivers are amongst the people who have been hardest hit.
These key workers are relied on to supply the country with vital goods and services and have been forced to work in poor conditions as a result of rising demand. This new funding will allow them better facilities to take breaks so that they can continue their work – something that Midland Pallet Trucks wholeheartedly supports.”
Along with increased funding in the sector, Midland Pallet Trucks are also helping the logistics sector by providing a range of high-quality manual handling equipment that makes warehouse work more efficient and productive.
