Midland Pallet Trucks, one of the country’s foremost suppliers of pallet trucks and other lifting equipment, is encouraging more businesses to invest in appropriate training for their employees – with the incentive of a more productive and efficient workplace for those that do.
While pallet trucks – often known as pump trucks – don’t actually require any formal training or qualification to operate, there are a multitude of advantages to be gained from enrolling staff in the right training course. When staff can learn to use the equipment safely and effectively, they maximize their potential for high productivity and performance – thus creating a more efficient workforce throughout the business.
Now, Midland Pallet Trucks is urging more industrial-based business to seek full pallet truck training for their staff – despite it not being compulsory.
Phil Chesworth, Managing Director of Midland Pallet Trucks, says, “Giving employees full training in how to operate and maintain pallet trucks is a great way to boost productivity across your entire workforce. The same ethos goes for all workplace equipment across every industry. You wouldn’t let a shop worker loose on a till without proper training, nor would you let a builder grab a pneumatic drill without learning how it works – it would be inefficient, unsafe and could cost the business big.”
He adds, “Pallet trucks seem like relatively simple pieces of equipment – and it’s true that they’re very easy to use and a great asset to any workplace – but we’d always encourage businesses to properly train their employees in order to get the best from both their workers and their equipment.”
While Midland Pallet Trucks don’t offer training courses, pallet truck courses are available at locations all over the country, with some sessions lasting just a few hours, while some span a full day or two. The courses cover everything from daily maintenance procedures to appropriate safety clothing, as well as offering comprehensive operating instructions for all staff. Employees will watch demonstrations of others operating pallet trucks correctly, and many course offer a hands-on practical session to ensure that the information has really sunk in.
Having a workforce that understands exactly how to operate their apparatus is a real boost to the business. The right training will result in less injuries to staff, higher efficiency across the entire team, and there’s even the possibility of reduced insurance premiums for the business which can prove it’s offering accredited safety courses to staff. All of these factors combine to create a more productive, and ultimately successful, business.
